Rape

In my sociology class we have been talking about the issues on rape. So what is rape? Rape is the forcing of somebody into sex, the crime of using force somebody to have sexual intercourse with somebody. This issue is very serious, and people that are raped do not tell anyone usually, because they are scared of the stereotypes they will end up with. So people usually point fingers at the people who are probably the most innocent in the case. The people that are raped are usually the ones that society blames saying it was there fault for letting it happen. No it is not their fault it is the person that thought they had the right to do such a horrible thing. The people that were the one that raped someone say they didn’t’ think they were doing anything wrong.  So when the people hear that they didn’t know they were doing anything wrong, people believe them. People need to be more educated about rape so if these people didn’t think they were they could be more educated about rape. I agree that the songs that we listen to have some very bad lyrics that some kids look past, and don’t even realize what they are listening to. Like in the song Blurred Lines rape victims said that a lot of the lyrics in the song are what there predators said to them. That is not the only song that has bad lyrics either. I think in America we point fingers at media and say that it is there fault that kids are listening to their music or television shows and showing that it is okay to rape someone because you feel like it! Rape is something that needs to be talked about more often so that people know more about it and how to stay out of those situations.

ME

Heredity would be the first thing that affects my everyday life. Everyone has heredity that plays a role in their lives. Heredity is your background on your family’s lives. This plays a role in my life because everything is passed down by traits. Heredity is a huge part because it is passed down from generation to generation.

A parental characteristic comes next for me! This is important for me,  because everything I have learned has somewhat been because of my parents. They have taught me my morals and values. They have shaped me into the person I am today.

Cultural environment would be my third thing that affects my everyday life. This is because of my family mostly. Cultural environment is the traditions that people have during the holidays. This applies to me because there are a lot of things that my family does during the holidays that are important to me.

Birth order would be my last. It is my last because I don’t really believe that it is true I believe anyone in your family can have the personalities despite the order of the children. Like in my family I believe my brother and I have switched what are personalities are supposed to be.

All these things have shaped me into the person I am today. These certain things influence us in our everyday lives in some way. That is why people are different from one another because of the different environments.

Birth Order

Have you ever wondered why do people have different personalities? It may be because of your birth order! In my sibling order I'm the oldest child, researchers say that the oldest child is responsible, driven, leadership, and conservative. I'm not a leader in any way I would say I'm more of a follower. I can be responsible at times but I wouldn't say all the time. Therefore I do not see any of the things they have described the oldest children as myself. I will say though I do boss my siblings around, but I also watch out for them like a parent would. I also do try to follow my parents wishes. Now my brother is the middle child I would agree with the things they described the middle child as. He is very creative but there are some traits that he has that are what researchers describe the oldest children as. He is a perfectionist where I am not all the time. They say most of the presidents in the United States are the oldest children well I could see my brother being more of a president just because of his charecteristics. I think I have more of the middle child traits then the oldest. I think what they have as the youngest childrens charecteristics are very close. My sister is the youngest and is defnitaly thinks she is entertaining, which she can be sometimes. She is very dependeble but that is because when you have older siblings the siblings just do everything for you. The only thing I would not agree with for the youngest sibling is they say that the youngest are laid-back my sister is not laid-back, but it probably all just depends on the family. I believe some of the things researchers say about birth order traits, but any of those traits could be found in any of the children. I agree with Dalton Conley, arthor of "The Pecking Order." He explains that there are a lot of other factors that affect the behavior of children." Early death of a parent, timing of ecomomic shocks to the family, gender expectations and roles in the family, you name it," Conley said. I believe this is true outside influences and random events can also have an effect on children.

What I learned this week

I'm suppose to write a blog on what I learned this week during school, so I am going to tell everyone what I learned this week! In reading class we are watching Robin Hood so I only really learned about that movie and now my class has to write 5 pages on that movie along with the other movies we watched, the other two movies we watched were King Arthur. In music appreciation we learned about the romantic era and how it is different from the classical era. Romantic era music has feelings and emotions while classical era music is predictable. In band we learned how to read in 6/8 time. In applied chemistry we learned how to balance equations I do not like balancing equations I think it is very difficult. In sociology we took a test and I learned that I should of studied harder. In business math I learned about insurance and how to buy a car. That is what I learned during this week of school.

Tuesdays With Morrie

In our sociology class we watched "Tuesdays with Morrie". This movie has alot of great examples of our American culture, such as love, work, and death. These are the things that stuck out most in the movie. Are we Americans afraid to love one another? I don't think we are afraid to love one another we are just afraid of rejection and getting our feelings hurt. So the more we think that we will get rejected we push away people that might love you but you can not return it because we are afraid of getting hurt. People could overcome this by just loving one another with no fear of getting hurt. If they don't love you back time heals everything. Romantic love is a feeling that is you just want someone to be with and don't really plan on it lasting, while real love is the feeling that you care about that person and want to be with that person for a long time. In the movie Mitch is a very hardworking person, but he takes it so seriously to succed he puts important things aside to have sucess. Some Americans are like that they work so hard to achieve that they put aside there family and don't even realize it at the time. Sometime we just have to take a step back and realize that there are more important things rather than working your life away. Are Americans afraid of death? It really depends on the person. Some are very open to the subject while others are not. So is death a taboo topic to some people it might be. They might not want to talk about it because they are afraid of the fact that they might die at any minute. They may also be afraid because they feel that if they died at any time that they may not have lived there life to the fullest.

MMA

Are there really more injuries or deaths from sanctioned MMA than Pro Wrestling? Pro Wrestling is a fake sport, it is simply good acting on the pro wrestlers part. Yes they practice, they practice though how it will play out. So yes pro wrestling may have more injuries but they are acting and are willing to get hurt. The MMA test for steroids, and all I know is that Pro Wrestling they do know that they are on steroids so they let them go. I think both MMA and Pro Wrestling has very harmful messages to the young people in our society, the kids that watch that think it would be fun to try that. They also think this would be a good way to learn for self defense. Self defense could be learned in another way other than the MMA or Pro Wrestling.  It could also make them think they would have better social status. All these things are not great things to show our kids of today.

Values

The five values that are applicable in my life are Time and control, Change, Morals, External Conformity, Achievement.  Time and control is a value that most of us have because mostly everyone has time management and when things need to get done. Change is another value that I use because change happens all the time during peoples lives whether it is moving, going to a new school, or a change in your daily routine. Morals are important to me because it is a judgment of what is good, bad, right or what is wrong. External conformity is the idea of just going with the flow, this I do in my daily life I would rather just sit back and take orders from someone else than just telling someone to do something. The last thing is achievement this is a huge value most everyone wants to achieve at something, so you can say you at least tried to achieve something in your life.

Card Game

So recently our class played a card game called Barnga! I would describe the game in one word frustrating. At the beginning of the game we split into groups and then read the directions and started playing then later on we would switch some members to different teams. I realized something was wrong when I was put into a different group and someone was playing by different rules, we couldn't talk so it became very frustrating. I thought that maybe I read the directions and that was why my teammates were playing different. Not being able to speak was very difficult, therefore made me very confused. The card game taught me that culture can be very confusing to understand if you can't speak there language.

Is There A True American Culture?

Is there a true American culture? I think there are a lot of other cultures that make up the American culture. When I read the article “The 100% American” it explains that everything you wake up to is not made in the USA. Everything that we use is an invention that was made a long time ago in a different country. Even our food is not a 100% American; I mean where do you think pizza came from! It came from Italy and Rice came from the Asian countries. So not even our food is American. Our clothes aren’t usually not even from America. The vehicles we drive are not made in America either. As you look back on your family tree, they probably originate from other countries and not the USA. So your beliefs and values probably originate from way back and can trace it to another countries culture. Even your religion is from different countries that came over to the America. Sometimes I think that some of us don’t even realize where some of the stuff we use in our daily lives comes from. I think that there is no real American culture, but it is very unique because of the different people that come to America and pass on their cultures and traditions. So therefore everything that is in our culture we get from other countries so we are a melting pot of all their traditions.

Who to Save!!!

In class we discussed what would we do if you could only keep nine people on a boat but there were 20 people. The people we saved were mostly the people we thought were strong and be able to help other people survive. I think other countries would think the same maybe a little different. Some have different views than us, this is because of our different cultures.

You vs. Kids being born today!

Kids born today are born into a world of advanced technology more so then when I was born. When I was just a kid cell phones were just starting to become popular, and computers were not as advanced as they are now. I know of a few toddlers that know how to run Ipads or Kindles, when I was a toddler I did not have an Ipad or Kindle, I had other sources of entertainment such as dolls and coloring books. If I grew up somewhere different I would probably have to go to a bigger school, and I probably would not be intreseted in some of the stuff I'm into now. To adults some of the problems teenagers have may seem small but to us it is a big deal at the time. As time passes though you look back and say to yourself it was really not that big of a deal. So yes I think teens make a big deal out of a small problem. One thing I fret over and I shouldn't is what people think! As I have gotten older though I have learned that is better to be yourself because you are an original not a copy!

Freaks and Geeks

The show Freaks and Geeks consists of groups like jocks, geeks, slackers, and freaks! In the paticular episode we watched it showed that this girl named Lindsay was a former geek and now wants to join the group of slackers. The functions of the geek group is to be really bright kids. They get labled by wearing nerdy clothes, usually in tv and movies portray that label. The negatives from the group is that they usually are afraid to stick up for themselves and usually get picked on from other kids. The functions of the slacker group that they show in Freaks and Geeks is that they are probably not the brightest kids. They are carefree and just try to make it through school. They are more popular than the geek group most likely that is why Lindsay wants to be apart of their group. There dysfunction is that they are probably to carefree. In the show this girl named Kim has maybe the most power in the slacker group, she is not very nice to her peers and gets away with it. The other leader of the group is Daniel. He has power because he is everything that would describe a slacker. Alan is a kid who picks on the geeks so he definatly has power over the geeks. I can relate somewhat to the show, but mostly everyone gets along and is kind of like one big family. There are just some of us that are a little different than others but everyone is different in their own way. I wear the clothes that I wear because it is what other people wear so you could say I follow trends.

Who I am

Hey I am Sandy! I am usually always smiling and generally a happy person! I think my personality is influenced by my friends and family. My family is definitely my biggest influence in life though. They make me the well rounded person I am today. My purpose in life I think is to make people happy, and help them with problems! My goals in life is to go to college and become an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
